WYOMING, Mich. (WZZM) -  Classic Chevrolet, Inc. President Tim Petty announced to employees today that the company has determined to wind-down operations at its 28th Street and Burlingame location in Wyoming.

We received a press release from the dealership about noon today.  The release also stated Classic will stop selling new cars, service and wholesale parts right away.

Classic will sell off the remainder of the used car inventory at its Wyoming location over the next several weeks.

Tim Petty released this statement:

"This is a very sad and difficult day for me and the entire Classic Chevy family.  The current economy, reduced consumer credit availability, General Motors recent decision to close the 36th Street plant in Wyoming, plus the effects of GM and GMAC's recent financial problems, combined to make business increasingly difficult at our Wyoming location.  When it became apparent in recent weeks that a change was necessary, we worked closely with General Motors and area Chevrolet dealers to ensure an orderly transition of Classic's sales and customer service operations and to provide our valued staff with employment opportunities at neighboring Chevrolet dealerships.  We believe that the most reasonable approach is an orderly wind-down of our Wyoming operations so that we can continue to provide resources to our Lake City, Michigan Chevrolet and Ford stores."

We will have more on this story on WZZM 13 News this afternoon.
