CALEDONIA, Mich. (WZZM) - A Caledonia basketball player who's been battling cancer for two years finally returned to the court Friday night.

People packed the gym at Caledonia High School to see Haley Gort start for the first time since doctors discovered a tumor in her brain. Even when she was too weak to play, Haley was on the sidelines as a manager for the fighting Scots.

After aggressive chemotherapy, Haley's tumor shrank and disappeared. She started radiation Monday, which has made her weak, but Haley wouldn't turn down a chance to start in Friday night's game and finally put on her own jersey.

Haley's mom says her diagnosis is very promising-- the type of cancer she has, has a 90 percent cure rate. Haley will undergo radiation for the next four weeks, and will likely need to make weekly visits to the University of Michigan Hospital once a week for testing.

WZZM 13's Brent Ashcroft was at the game and he will have more on Haley's story on WZZM 13 News at 11 p.m.
