PHOENIX, AZ ( -  Phoenix police on Tuesday were investigating a crash involving a 12 News vehicle that left anchor and reporter Kim Covington and photo journalist Michael Falvo injured.

The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of 12th and Van Buren streets in Phoenix. A black SUV is suspected of failing to yield at a stop sign on 12th Street, hitting the 12 News vehicle, which was on Van Buren, said Sgt. Trent Crump, a Phoenix police spokesman. The collision caused the 12 News vehicle to roll into oncoming traffic. It was hit by another vehicle traveling on Van Buren. The driver of the black SUV could be cited, Crump said.

Covington, the 12 News weekend evening anchor, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Falvo was treated by paramedics at the scene and will be evaluated by doctors. The driver of the third vehicle was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

12 News general manager John Misner, who went to the scene of the crash and is at the hospital with Covington, released a statement saying that no additional details regarding the condition of the 12 News employees were available.

"We will do everything we can to ensure that Kim and Mike get the care and treatment needed," he said. "We are certainly appreciative of the concern and well wishes of our viewers and thank them for their kind thoughts.

"We also want to thank the Phoenix Fire Department and Phoenix Police Department for taking such good care of Kim and Mike at the scene."
