GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- There's no doubt ArtPrize is an opportunity for the city to shine and stand out to new people. Since a first impression can mean everything, Grand Rapids works extra hard to keep the streets clean.

But with so many people packing the streets, you may miss the men and woman in yellow picking up.

Lonnie Scott with ABM garbage collection says his job is not to pick up trash, but to make a good impression. "We're here for first impressions, so if we can keep the city clean then we shine."

Last year his crews picked up 17,000 pounds of trash during the three weeks of ArtPrize. That averages to more than three tons a week.

Not only does a clean city lead to better tourism numbers, it may help recruit new people to the area.

"Some people are on the fence about making a move, some want to live in a cleaner city and we're here to help facilitate that," said Scott.

If you only get one shot to make a first impression, Scott is making his a clean one.
