MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) - The power plant that at one time generated electricity for the Sappi paper mill has been demolished.

Sunday morning, the legs of the building were blown out with explosives and in seconds the building crumbled to the ground.

Many former workers gathered for hours outside of the site reminiscing. Some saying it looked more like a tailgating party for the plant's final showing. Lenny Stark says he came to say goodbye. He was an employee for over 25 years saying, "I made a good living there so I'm thankful for that."

Another group had bonfires with a dozen friends talking about their many generations who raised families off of the living they made from the plant.

To prepare for the blast around 8 A.M. police will closed Lakeshore Drive from Cottage Grove to McKracken.

Two public locations that offered views are at the Harbor Town Beach and the Grand Trunk Dock.
