GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Seven cases of the flu have been detected in Kent County.

The Kent County Health Department says the numbers are up from this same time last year. Two cases were reported in September and five in October; in 2012 there were only seven cases by the end of November.

The early arrival of the virus seems to be on trend with earlier predictions from the CDC that the flu season would start this fall and peak around the holidays.

Normally Michigan's flu season starts in December and peaks in February or March.

It's not too late to get your flu shot. Area clinics, doctors offices and health departments have them available. It takes about two weeks for you to be protected once your vaccinated.
