MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- The mother of Trayvon Martin will speak Thursday night in Muskegon. Sybrina Fulton will be at the Frauenthal Theater at 7 p.m.
Martin was the black teenager from Florida fatally shot by volunteer neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in 2012. A jury found Zimmerman not guilty by reason of self defense.
The focus of the event will be to honor Fulton's son and talk to those in attendance about conflict resolution.
Several different Muskegon area groups organizing the event say everyone in the community should feel welcome.
"This is a community event. We have worked hard so this is a melting pot; Jews, gays, blacks, whites, educators, children, ministers, we have a cross section of people," said Phyllis Watson-Loudermill, NAACP Muskegon president.
Ticket prices start at $10 for students and go up to $30 to attend the VIP reception. They are available at the Frauenthal Theater box office or through the Muskegon NAACP.
