Shoppers prepare to hit stores earlier than ever

WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) - Food, family and football have been Thanksgiving Day traditions for generations, But shopping is quickly making that list.

Thanksgiving Day seems to have developing a new name - "Brown Thursday." More and more retailers are choosing to open their doors on Thanksgiving this year. It has some people pushing away the turkey and reaching for the sale ads.

Millions of Americans are gearing up to hit the stores earlier than ever as retailers like Best Buy released ads online a week earlier than usual. Shoppers have been able to view ads from practically ever major retailer. And for those who don't want to shop online, stores like Kmart, Toys-R-Us, Walmart and Macy's will open their doors Thanksgiving Day.

In fact, Kmart Stores across the country opened at 6 a.m. Thursday and will stay open for 41 hours straight. Store managers say this is what people want.

Stores like Costco and Barnes & Noble are giving employees Thanksgiving day off to enjoy it with their families.
