GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Spring is a popular time to get a new pet, especially puppies.
If you are adding a new puppy to your family, there are five tips from the Humane Society of West Michigan that you need to keep in mind.
1. Socialize your new pet. Lindsey Kubik from the Humane Society of West Michigan says, "It's very important to socialize them early on. Between 7-16 weeks is the time they're going to be taking in a lot of information." Kubik also says that most incidents involve dogs that were not properly socialized.
2. Teach the right behaviors.
3. Potty train the puppy.
4. Make sure it gets enough exercise.
5. Teach the puppy what not to chew on.
