This year, the GRPS Summer Meals Program will again take place, offering a wholesome free lunch to kids in the Grand Rapids area. The meals will be available to students age 18 or younger. The goal of the program is to provide healthy and nutritious food to students, and help families get through the challenge of being able to feed their families during the summer months.
There are 26 sites total in the Grand Rapids area that will be serving meals this summer. Most will begin serving on June 17 and continue through July 25. Some of the sites may be serving meals into August, and some may provide breakfast and a snack, as well as lunch.
Funding for this program comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Summer Meals Program serves children across the country. In Grand Rapids, about 1,500 - 2,000 children per day were served in recent years.
