(WZZM) -- About a decade ago, emerald ash borer created a problem for ash trees across the lower peninsula; many trees died or had to be cut down due to the borer.

But now some birds are doing their part to battle the bug. Woodpeckers and nuthatches have developed a taste for the beetle. These natural predators are eating the bug larvae under the bark of the trees.

If you'd like more birds in your yard Rick Vuyst recommends woodpecker logs or suet cakes.
