MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A lakeshore business, plagued by financial problems, has closed. 13 On Your Side has confirmed with two sources that Michigan Steel in Muskegon has closed its doors.
The remaining employees at the foundry were informed Friday not to return to work this week. Earlier this year the company on Western Avenue was issuing checks their employees could not cash.
Tuesday, the city of Muskegon confirmed Michigan Steel still owes significant amounts of money for delinquent tax bills and other bills for city services.
A liquidation sale of Michigan Steel property was recently published by an Ohio company, but that listing is no longer on the company's website.
