BLUE LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Two men who fell through the ice while fishing are in the hospital. Both men were on Lake Wolverine Friday afternoon at the Owasippe Scout Camp.
Around 3 p.m, one man fell into the lake as did his friend who was trying to rescue him. A third man was not able to help or get off the ice as it started to crumble under him.
The Blue Lake Fire Department sent firefighters wearing cold water suits to stabilize the victims. White Lake fighters used a hovercraft to get the men to shore, one at a time.
The two men who went into the ice were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Both men were cold and showing signs of hypothermia.
The fire chief says this should be a sign to other fisherman that the end of the ice fishing season has arrived.
