Red Cross helping flood victims with clean-up

American Red Cross of Greater Grand Rapids needs volunteers

(WZZM) - West Michigan flood victims will receive some much needed help from the American Red Cross of West Michigan.

The agency is mobilizing its resources and going into hard-hit areas, helping victims pick up the pieces by handing out supplies for those starting the difficult task of cleaning up.

Emergency response vehicles will distribute snacks, water, and clean-up kits to flood victims. Those kits include mops, scrub brushes, shovels, and cleaning chemicals along with other items.

The distribution schedule is as follows:


  • 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Tallmadge Township; 0-1451 Leonard St.; Grand Rapids
  • 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Crockery Township Hall; 17431 112th Ave.; Nunica
  • 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Robinson Township Hall; 12010 120th Ave.; Grand Haven
  • 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Georgetown Fire Station; 1415 44th St.; Jenison


  • 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Polkton Township Hall; 6900 Arthur St. W; Coopersville
  • 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. Grand Haven Fire Station/Township Hall; 13250 168th Ave.; Grand Haven
  • 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. American Red Cross of Ottawa County; 270 James St.; Holland

The Red Cross is also consolidating shelters. Locations in Hudsonville, Kentwood, and Fremont closed Wednesday night.

The locations at Alpine Baptist Church, at 692 7 Mile Rd. NW in Comstock Park; First Baptist Church, at 2275 W. Main St. in Lowell and the Ionia Armory Community Center, at 439 W. Main St. in Ionia will remain open 24/7 at this time providing shelter, clean-up kits, water, and snacks.

Disaster mental health volunteers will be available throughout this time to provide emotional assistance to flood victims.
