UPDATE (Tuesday, May 21)-- The driver who hit a teenager boarding a school bus is being ticketed.
Margaret Gessner, 79, hit 15-year-old Javony Viveros last month in Wright Township. Viveros was crossing the street to get on the school bus. He was seriously injured, but is recovering.
Gessner is charged with a moving violation causing serious injury. She is scheduled to appear in court May 29.
UPDATE Friday, April 26 at 6:30 am- DeVos Children's Hospital confirms that Jovany Viveros-Villa remains in critical condition Friday morning, one day after he was hit by a car while trying to get on the school bus.
OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) - A 15-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a car on his way to the school bus Thursday morning.
Jovany Viveros of Marne is being treated at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Investigators with the Ottawa County Sheriff say that a Coopersville school bus was stopped with its red flashing lights activated on 8th Avenue when a woman driving a 2006 Saturn going the other direction, struck Viveros as he walked into the road to get on the bus. Viveros' younger brother was in the driveway and had not entered the road. He called 911.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Margaret Gessner, 79, of Grand Rapids. She was treated at the scene for minor injuries. One passenger, Scott Gessner, 51, of Grand Rapids was also treated at the scene.
Viveros is a student at New Options Alternative Education, which is part of the Allendale Public Schools.
