LINCOLN CHARTER TWP., Mich. (WZZM/AP) -- Two Holland-area women are dead after a horrific crash on I-94 Sunday afternoon.
Police say that the women were in car heading westbound on I-94 when they swerved to avoid a piece of tire in the roadway. Their vehicle hit a box truck that was also heading westbound, but then the driver lost control and went across the median, striking a semi-trailer heading eastbound head-on.
The two 19-year-old women in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. Police say that the damage to the vehicle was extensive. The drivers of the trucks received very minor injuries. Westbound I-94 was closed for approximately four hours.
The Associated Press is identifying the victims as 18-year-old Jaquisha Wright of Chicago and 19-year-old Rashell Allen of Holland.
Police say that neither speed nor impairment appear to have been factors in the crash. All those involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.
