GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The Grand Rapids Griffins won their first home game of the conference semi-finals Wednesday night. Now they just need to win two more against the Toronto Marlies, but are asking for extra support from fans.

We talked to a few at the game. "This is the first time they've been in the playoffs in years, so we weren't going to miss it for anything," said Kristi Kodos.

"They've got a chance at going all the way, but you never know," said Joey Neiser.

But the fans coming to the next home games on Friday and Saturday are going to have to cheer a little louder than usual.

"Tonight's crowd, I'd say is around 3,000," said Time Gortsema, Vice President of Business Operations for the Griffins. Compare that to an average 7,800 toward the end of the regular season. "Once you get into your conference finals, and you get into your Calder Cup Finals, that's when you really ramp up and have much greater attendance."

Until then, Gortsema says ticket sales plummet because of tough last-minute scheduling. "You find out generally a week before when your dates are going to be. They may not be the most desirable dates; they're more likely to be mid-week dates."

But to the fans at Wednesday's game, that's no excuse: "Get here! Support your team," said Kodos.

Plenty of tickets are available for the next home games this Friday and Saturday. You can buy them at the door for as low as $12.
