(WZZM) - Wednesday marks a special day in the fight to cure cancer as the American Cancer Society celebrates 100 years.

Since 1913, The American Cancer Society has helped save nearly 1.2 million lives. Today 2 out of 3 people diagnosed with cancer are surviving the disease for at least five years. More than 400 people a day in the U.S. are celebrating birthdays who otherwise would have been lost to cancer.

Kyle Dutkiewicz, with the American Cancer Society and Bob Johnson with West Michigan Caterer stopped by WZZM 13's Studios to talk about celebrating the organization's latest milestone Finish the Bite Cupcake Competition.

Finish the Bite is fundraiser featuring bakers from across West Michigan who will compete with mini cupcakes or cake pops in three categories.

It will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m at West Michigan Caterer, located at Centennial Country Club, 3361 Charlevoix Dr. SE, Grand Rapids. The cost is $20. Guests will enjoy free samples from all the bakers and they will get one vote for the People's Choice award.

Guests also will enjoy a cash bar, cash food stations, and an opportunity to make some noise to Finish the Fight against cancer.
