WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- The person who wins the office of mayor in Detroit will help lead the city through Chapter nine bankruptcy filing. It is the largest city to file for bankruptcy in American history.

Justin Amash represents parts of West Michigan in Congress. He spoke with WZZM 13 News Tuesday on several topics, including the situation in Detroit.

Amash says he has "no concerns" about the bankruptcy's immediate effect on West Michigan.

"I have no concerns about the bankruptcy in terms of its immediate effect. West Michigan has been doing fantastic, I'm hopeful it doesn't create a further negative perception of Michigan," said Amash. "On the other hand, the sooner we can get past it, the sooner Michigan can get back on the right track, Detroit can get on the right track and I think that will help West Michigan."

Amash says on the federal level, there is no talk of trying to bailout the city of Detroit.
