BELDING, Mich. (WZZM) -- The preliminary autopsy results in the death of 10-year-old Devon Morrison is accidental drowning. The boy was found around 1 p.m. Monday in the Flat River.

Devon was last seen fishing alone along the river around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. By around 6:30 that evening, his parents started getting worried and notified police.

A search was conducted Saturday night and Sunday and police found clues along the river, including Devon's shoes and a container of worms.

It wasn't until Monday when another search of that same area, that a diver discovered his body near the Ashfield Road bridge. A family friend told WZZM 13 the bridge was one of Devon's favorite fishing spots.

Belding Police Chief Dale Nelson says investigators are waiting on the medical examiner to determine the official cause of death. Detectives remain on the case as a precaution.

Chief Nelson described Devon as a very active boy who had attention deficit disorder and loved fishing. "We need to remember Devon for being Devon. And whatever joy he brought to whomever he contacted, was a wonderful thing," Nelson said.

Many in the community knew Devon; Rachel Satterlee just met him two weeks ago. "I had a long conversation with him about fishing. I remember leaving and chuckling to myself: 'That's probably the best conversation I'm going have all day and it was a little kid,'" recalled Satterlee.
