BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- West Michigan may soon be getting a new outlet mall.
Tanger Outlets has been exploring building an 80 store outlet mall on 84th Street at U.S. 131 in Byron Township. The property, which was purchased, is at the former Dome World recreation site.
Audrey Nevins Weiss, the Byron Township Supervisor tells WZZM 13 that the company has filed an application and the plans will go to the Byron Township Planning Commission on October 21 at 7 p.m. for public comment.
Township leaders say the only concern is more traffic.
"I think they have looked at traffic patterns and growth and people will travel; it will be a destination place to come to Byron Center," said Weiss. "I do have some concerns because at this point, there is already so much traffic. It's very noisy and speed limit is outrageous."
Susan Hamarillo lives across from the Tanger property and she also has traffic concerns. "I think when that mall comes, we are going to have more traffic this road cannot handle."
Weiss says managing the traffic is one of the developers main priorities. If all proceeds as hoped, construction on the mall would start in the summer of 2014 and they would hope to have it completed by fall of 2015.
Tanger has outlet malls in Howell and West Branch.
