OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM)- The Oceana County Sheriff's Department is trying to confirm a young teenager's account of shooting at a break-in suspect.
According to Lt. Craig Mast, the 13-year-old boy called dispatchers around 7:10 a.m. Tuesday from his home in the 2500 block of West Shelby Road. The boy told investigators a suspect tried to break into his home. The boy says he confronted the suspect and felt threatened, so he shot at the man.
Canines were unable to track a suspect and detectives found no footprints in the area. The boy was home alone.
Nearby schools were on lockdown during the search. That lockdown has since been lifted.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Oceana County Sheriff's Department.
