GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A man and his girlfriend are charged in connection with the murder of a Grand Rapids man in October.
John Dahlinger, 56, was found dead in his condo on Krislin Street NE on October 16. Police determined that he had been shot in the head, beaten, and suffered a heart attack.
Danyell Thomas, 36, was arrested on October 25 on a probation violation related to the delivery of heroin. He has now been charged with felony murder, open murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, assault with intent to rob while armed, felony firearm, and being a habitual offender.
Dijana Kilic, 24, turned herself in to police Thursday and is charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
On October 25, Grand Rapids and Wyoming Police searched Thomas and Kilic's home on Cleveland Avenue SW. They were questioned and Thomas was arrested on a probation charge.
On November 1, Kilic was arrested and charged with lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation. She waived her preliminary exam on November 15 and was released on bond.
Dahlinger's phone records show he had been in contact with Kilic the day of his murder, according to court documents. Records also show Thomas brought a gun to Dahlinger's home with intent to rob him.
Police also recovered a bag that had been dumped in an Allegan County field. It contained Kilic's cell phone and paper records with both Kilic and Thomas' names on them. They also found ammunition that was the same type used in the murder.
During Thursday's arraignment, Thomas and Kilic were denied bond. The judge said that because she has a passport and relatives in Bosnia, she was a flight risk. The two will be in court again for a preliminary hearing on December 4.
