(WZZM) -- West Michigan's own Ginger Zee keeps moving on up.
ABC News announced Monday morning that main Good Morning America weather anchor Sam Champion is leaving ABC News for a job at the Weather Channel. Ginger Zee is being named as his replacement on GMA.
For those who don't know, Ginger is from Rockford. Her former teacher from Rockford High School, Colleen Pierson always knew Zee would be successful. "I'm not surprised because Ginger has a quality about her that I haven't seen very often."
Ginger can be seen forecasting the weather and taking-on adventures for Good Morning America. "Ginger loves it. That sense of excitement. Chasing tornadoes, being part of the storm, in the storm." She worked in Flint, Grand Rapids, Chicago, then New York. She will take over for Champion, whose last day is Wednesday.
"She's very modest and such a hard worker. She deserves the success she has," said Pierson.
