WALKER, Mich. (WZZM) -- This winter has been especially harsh, but Friday's storm was among the worst West Michigan has seen this season, with blizzard-like conditions creating whiteout visibilities.

Drivers with the Kent County Road Commission say the western side of the county has been worse than the eastern side all day. They say drivers are still traveling too fast for this weather, and 50 mph wind gusts made Friday their toughest on the job all season.

"It just seems like we're going around in circles; the same roads we have to visit a couple of times in a day. Whereas with a typical storm, we'd be able to get across it once and that snow is removed and it stays off," said Tim Dougherty of the road commission.

Dougherty says county plows likely won't plow neighborhood streets until Monday, but he's finding the city streets aren't that bad because the snow is blowing so much.
