(WZZM) Ann Arbor, Mich. - The FDA recently approved a bionic eye, and soon it will be available for those who need it in Michigan.
The Univeristy of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center will be one of only 13 centers in the country to offer the retinal implant.
The Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System, developed by Second Sight Medical Products and approved by the FDA in February, is surgically implanted in one eye.
The patient then wears glasses equipped with a camera to capture images which are then converted into electrical impulses.
