(WZZM) - Catching some rays can do more than just improve your mood, they can also help lower your blood pressure.
A new study suggests sun exposure is the best way to protect your heart.
Researchers at the Univeristy of Edinburgh in the UK found that when participants were exposed to the sun their blood pressure lowered.
The research found this reaction to the sun causes nitric acid to be released into your blood pressure reducing the risk of heart disease by 7-percent and stroke by 10-percent.
Just 15 minutes a day of direct sunlight can have that effect on the body. But if you're going to be out longer than that you should wear sunscreen to protect yourself from skin cancer and pre-mature aging.
