(WZZM) Grand Rapids, Mich. - Type 2 diabetes is a national epidemic affecting millions of Americans each year.
According to the Michigan Department of Community Health, about 250,000 Michigan adults are thought to have diabetes and not even know it.
The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is doing something about it with their implementation of a Diabetes Prevention Program.
The YMCA joins a national effort aimed at preventing the onset of Type 2 diabetes with funding from YMCA of the USA, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, and Spectrum Health Healthier Communities.
The program includes guidance by a Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting desgined to educate individuals at high risk for developing Type 2 diabetes.
