GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- West Michigan has its share of expos, from bridal shows to boating, but now there are two guys who are bring their love of games to Grand Rapids in the form of a convention.

Brian Lenz and Marc Specter want to bring a table top and comic book expo to Grand Rapids.

"Whether it's board games, role-playing games, war games, as well as comic books and the people who create them," explains Specter. "Monopoly and Scrabble, that is what people think when they think table top games, but there is an entire world of gaming that has more theme, more nuance, more strategy, more everything."

Board gaming is having a resurgence in West Michigan. You can find an event happening almost every week. This is why Brian and Marc thought now is the time for a convention.

"Lets bring this excitement, this social experience to Grand Rapids allowing folks to enjoy a great time-- from little kids to the big kids," says Lenz.

GrandCon will take place September 20-22, 2013 at the Prince Conference Center. It will have rooms full of games to play, venders selling the latest wares, and artists showing off their work. There will be a library with over a 1,000 games to learn to play.

"We do have games that last 10, 15, 20 minutes like, but some are eight hour epics," says Specter.
