GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- The first big weekend of ArtPrize is fast approaching but its founder, Rick DeVos is trying to keep a low profile here in West Michigan.
DeVos says he wants to allow people involved with the project on a day-to-day basis to talk about the annual event. He is however reaching out to media outside of West Michigan.
DeVos talked Thursday evening to WXYZ in Detroit. He spoke to their crew on the grounds of the Ford Presidential Museum about why he thinks this event is so important.
"The short term economic impact is nice, but that's not the ultimate goal; the ultimate goal is to create a culture that is curious, engaged, inspiring, and inspired," DeVos said.
He has been quoted in several articles about ArtPrize, including a story this week in the Wall Street Journal.
DeVos is also focusing his energy on his latest project, Start Garden. It's dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground.
