Craft Expert, Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood from the Grand Rapids Press and craftsanity.com shows us the art of printmaking with her daughters Abby and Amelia.
We'll be show viewers how to do some basic printmaking techniques. Amelia, 7, got us into printmaking last fall and now we're hooked. I've been carving our designs into linoleum and we all do the printing together using a press my dad made for Amelia out of my mom's old kitchen cupboards. (He gave it to her for Christmas.) Since carving is dangerous for little kids and we don't want any little spring breakers getting hurt, we've been showing adults and children how to print using pens, recycled styrofoam take-out containers and water soluble inks. The cool part is that with these readily available materials everyone can create their own design and make multiple copies.
Jennifer says, "I've had so much fun printing with Abby and Amelia. I'm a blessed woman to have these little ladies in my life."
We're working on a printmaking story for the Spring issue of CraftSanity Magazine and will be selling our prints at CraftSanity.etsy.com.
