SPARTA, Mich. (WZZM) - Rockford and Sparta may both soon host athletes at brand new multi-million dollar sports and recreation facilities.
The $8 million Art Van Sports Complex is already under construction on 10 Mile Road NE in Plainfield Township just outside of Rockford.
Sparta is also making plans for it's own million dollar multiple field facility about five miles away.

Leaders in Sparta say they aren't trying to compete or take any attention away from the complex under construction near Rockford. They just want to consolidate all of their community fields for multiple sports at one location.
Sparta administrators have already spent $350 thousand dollars to buy 80 acres of land.
"This is land we would like to develop into a mixed sports recreational complex for everyone in the community to use," says Sparta village manager Martin Super.
Sparta Recreation Commission members hope to raise a few million more and build a first class complex.
"The facilities are inadequate here in our community," explains Recreation Authority member Greg Peak. "We recognized that about a year ago. The village of Sparta is growing and the opportunities for our kids need to improve and increase accordingly."
This week the Sparta Recreation Authority will review qualifications of engineering companies interested in bidding on the job.
"Best case scenario, we will have kids playing on fields by next summer," says Super.
