COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) -- A cat who wasn't willing to come down from a tree for her owner didn't exactly want help from the fire department either.
Mia, the cat, got stuck in a tree Monday in the York Creek Apartment complex. Her owner called us saying she was having trouble finding someone to help her.
WZZM 13 made a few calls, and the Alpine Township Fire Department and Kent County Animal Control came to give it a shot. However, firefighters and animal control officers also had trouble, as Mia climbed even farther up the tree during the rescue attempt.
Kathy April, Mia's owner was concerned for the cat because she had been up there for 24 hours.
"She's had no food and it's been really windy today, so I've been really worried about her," said April.
Dave Klomparens, the Alpine Township Fire Chief says of the cat, "The cat is still up in the tree and it's roughly 40 feet in the air and hopefully the weather won't be bad and she'll find her way down when she gets hungry."
The firefighters couldn't go any higher up the tree without risking their own safety.
Despite being unable to retrieve the cat, Kathy expressed her heartfelt gratitude, "I appreciate you coming. I appreciate everyone coming. I mean, those guys didn't want to give up at all.
