EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- February is almost over... how's that New Year's resolution to shed a few pounds coming along?
It's tough to stay motivated when all you have is a treadmill and a blank wall to run toward for an hour.
Eastown Striders has the solution so get ready to bundle up and head back outdoors; even while the snow is flying! Snowshoe running is a great way to get your exercise.
Erin Kring, Eastowne Striders manager explained that while it might be an intimidating idea, "Once you get going, you figure it out pretty quickly. Training-wise, you really only have to run. You don't necesarily have to train specifically for snowshoeing. We use it as a cross-training for running. Which is a nice option for people. It opens us up to use all of the trail systems we're so blessed to have around here that we typically can't access in the winter because they're buried under snow."
Striders rents snowshoes for $17 per day or $34 per weekend.
