A Chalderwoods Fourth grader shows off her jump rope skills

Grand Rapids (WZZM) - A new partnership in Grand Rapids will get some area students moving.

The Grand Rapids Public Schools and Spectrum Health have teamed up to create Jump Jam.

It's a jump rope competition Saturday, April 20th for students in third to fifth grades.

"One of the goals is to have kids engage in activities that are beneficial, that will help them engage in healthy lifestyle practices," said Kurt Johnson with Grand Rapids Public Schools. "Sometimes those things need to be fun so they don't even realize they're doing exercise."

At least 600 kids have already signed up for the competition at DeVos Place.

Online registration is closed, but children who would like to get involved can register at their schools.

Along with the kids' competitions, a challenge was issued between GRPS Superintendent Teresa Weatherall-Neal and Steve Heacock of Spectrum Health.

So a team from the school system will compete against a team from Spectrum Health.
