Building a diverse blood supply

GRAND RAPIDS, (WZZM) - Saturday Michigan Blood held a drive at Ottawa Hills High School to help diversify the blood supply and bone marrow registry.

Organizers at the drive stressed the importance of collecting blood for minority groups. Currently, only 2% of blood comes from African Americans. People donating blood, could also take free health screenings, and enjoy live music and entertainment.

Donors must be at least 17 years-old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and have photo identification.
