(WZZM) - They've added up the latest numbers on obesity and it's not looking good for Michigan.
Tuesday, the Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released projections for obesity in America by 2030.
Michigan is expected to top out at 59.4%. The state has long been in the top ten for obesity rates. Right now, Michigan's obesity rate is 31.3%.
The climbing obesity rates do only raise the potential for an increase in heart disease, high blood pressure and kidney disease, but they also increase the nation's health care costs.
With 13 states at or near 60% obesity rates, health care costs will nearly double from $44 billion to $66 billion.
