At least 40 dogs registered for the dog sled races at Winterfest 2011 in Grand Haven.
Winterfest starts in Grand Haven.
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM)-Grand Haven is looking more like Alaska this weekend, as the community celebrates Winterfest 2011.
Saturday, dozens of children enjoyed one wild ride while being pulled by their very own family sled dog.
Teams also transformed cardboard into a one of a kind ride down the Ski Bowl, as part of the ever popular cardboard sled race. One group even created their own duck out of cardboard.
"It's kind of crazy," says event volunteer Melissa Heyer. "Where else can you jump on a piece of cardboard and slide down a ski hill? It's fun!"
"We love to get everybody together from Grand Haven to come down here," says Kevin Tuuk, the owner of Grand Haven's City Farmer. "It's just a fun family event that's in our community, and what better day than a day of snow and ice to celebrate winter."
Winterfest continues Sunday with a snowboard and ski competition at the Ski Bowl and a snow angel contest at Central Park.
