MUSKEGON (WZZM) -- A Muskegon County Jail inmate attempted to escape before his death on Saturday.
Sheriff Dean Roesler says 34-year old Dahnontae McKinley pushed past a guard to escape his jail cell. Deputies brought him back to the cell where McKinley tried to escape again.
Deputies pepper-sprayed McKinley and eventually put him in a restraining chair in an effort to subdue him. Following the incident, McKinley was found unresponsive in his jail cell. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
McKinley was in jail on pending charges of robbery.
