  • NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WZZM) - The Norton Shores Fire Marshall says a fire alarm that failed over the weekend passed inspection last May. The alarm was manually pulled early Saturday morning when a fire began at Lake Forest Apartments, but it did not sound when activated.

12 units were destroyed and another 12 damaged by smoke and water.

Norton Shores Fire Marshal Norman Hosko says the alarm system is inspected every year. He will test alarms in other apartments buildings at the complex in the next few days to make sure they work correctly.

"I have told the complex management that I will be looking at the alarm panels on the rest of the structures," Hosko told WZZM 13.

Investigators will resume their search for the cause of the fire on Wednesday.
