OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) - A 13 On Your Side report over the summer is making a difference in Ottawa County.

The health department says it purchased beach advisory signs because of our story about toxic "blue green" algae in Lake Macatawa. Last month, we found many people unkowningly swimming in the water with the toxic algae.

Shortly after letting the health department know about the problem, officials put up a temporary warning sign at the beach.

Health department officials will now carry the new beach advisory signs in their vehicles at all times, in case a similar situation occurs.
