FRUITPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)- Two vehicle break-ins near the Lakes Mall have Fruitport Township police on high alert.

Police say the thieves targeted vehicles outside of the Red Lobster and Booyah's Tuesday evening. Both vehicles had valuables in plain view that were stolen.

If you plan to visit the shopping center this weekend, police have provided five tips to keep in mind:

  1. If possible, shop with a friend or family member.
  2. Make sure children stay together and designate a meeting place if you get separated.
  3. Try not to carry a lot of cash, instead use debit or credit cards.
  4. Keep your purse zipped and close to your body at all times.
  5. Hide all valuables and packages in your car when it is parked.
