GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Realtors say the greater Grand Rapids market is the best it's been in years. Most homes are selling within 30 to 60 days; others within a few hours.
WZZM 13 News asked realtor Jason Carpenter from Keller Williams, to find a few homes as examples. They can be anywhere in the greater Grand Rapids area for under $175,000. First, we wanted to know where we could get the most for our money.
"What I would say is you get more bang for your buck in the city of Grand Rapids. You can get houses priced under $100 square foot there." One house was in the Alger Heights area and is priced at $179,850. It's 2,800 sq. ft.
"Then, you gravitate toward Jenison/Hudsonville and you're looking at $100 square foot." There was a house in a newer neighborhood, priced at $174,900. It was just over 1,700 sq. ft.
"Then, over in Ada/Cascade, you're looking at $110 and up, per square foot." The house Carpenter picked out was priced at $169,900 and is just over 1,500 sq. ft.
But, the number one factor that people consider is the school district.
"All the areas with good school districts remain attractive: East Grand Rapids, Forest Hills, the outer lying areas like Byron Center, Rockford and Caledonia."
The bottom line is that you need to consider multiple factors when buying a home. Just keep in mind the market is good right now, and you may not have a lot of time to decide.
