MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Muskegon woman, like so many, is a recent victim of identity theft. After noticing fraudulent activity in her account, she contacted her bank branch and then 13 On Your Side for help.

Christine Sayas says she first tried to use her banking card at a gas station and it was rejected. She later found hundreds of dollars of charges in Denver, Colorado. Sayas says she doesn't know anyone in that area.

She also filed a report at the Muskegon Police Department. The department says if you have an issue contact these three reporting agencies: Experian, Transunion, and Equifax.

Your credit and debit card is most likely compromised locally before it is used somewhere else, so watch your accounts carefully and contact the agencies if anything suspicious happens.

WZZM 13's Sarah Barwacz has the story in the video posted above.
