HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- A beach-front hot dog hut that shutdown a couple of months ago is back open, with a new name and new owners.
The owner of Smitty's Pronto Pups on Ottawa Beach Road in Holland closed after battling the township, neighbors and finances.
This week, new owners opened Dune Dogz at the same location.
"We've got positive from everybody, we feel comfortable moving forward and so far, this last week as been a lot of fun," said Co-Owner Kim Wojahn, who opened the eatery with her husband Dan Ross. "They're happy to see something will be reopening here and that the building will not be empty."
Wojahn says her goal before opening was to dispel fears of residents and the township. Park Township Manager Jerry Felix says Dune Dogz is meeting all of the Township's zoning conditions and standards.
Wojahn says making contact with neighbors was important as well.
"I've met with neighbors across the park here as well and up in the neighborhood," she said. "They've all been very happy to see us."
Dune Dogz features a specialty 'dog on a stick' and Chicago-style hot dogs. The shop is open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
