WAYLAND, Mich. (WZZM) - An Allegan County couple picked up a hitchhiker Friday morning, after a deer jumped through a window and into their moving minivan.
Ralph Long and his fiancé were traveling west on 133rd Avenue in a 2008 Dodge Caravan when a northbound four-point buck leapt through the rear driver's side window, and landed in the back of the minivan.
Driver Ralph Long recounted the incident, "This deer was standing there looking at me, and I said, get out, get out!"
The rear seat was removed, and Wayland Police say when Long looked into his rearview mirror, he saw the buck attempting to stand up inside his van.
Long immediately stopped in the middle of the road and the two jumped from the van and opened the side sliding door. The deer fell out onto the roadway.
Unfortunately, a Wayland Police officer had to shoot the animal, because it had a broken back.
Authorities say aside from a broken window, the minivan was not damaged.
