(WZZM)- The Ferris State hockey team has been in Tampa for just over 24 hours and they have already captured a win. Bulldogs head coach Bob Daniels was chosen today as the 2012 Spencer Penrose Award Winner as Division I's Men's Ice Hockey National Coach of the Year.

Daniels also won the award in 2003.  The team got in a practice today at the Tampa Times Forum as the Bulldogs prepare for the Dutchmen from Union College of New York Thursday.

The program has 604 all time wins and they would like for their 606th program win to come Saturday night by winning a championship.  But that can't happen if they don't beat Union.

Ferris State head coach Bob Daniels says, "I think all four teams here this weekend here are going to have a great chance of winning, and I can make a strong case for any of the four and I certainly feel the same again for ourselves and I can make a strong case for us, being the champion as well."

Ferris State senior center Jordie Johnston says, "We've got quite an opportunity right now to make this probably one of the best or the best best moment we've had at college so, that's our goal right now to go out and get the win on Thursday and and hopefully find some success on Saturday."

The Frozen Four begins Thursday afternoon. Ferris and Union get started at 4:30PM on ESPNU.

If the Bulldogs win, they will face either Minnesota or Boston College for the National Championship Saturday night.
