Motorcycle chase started in Eaton County

UPDATE (SATURDAY 6:00 P.M.)–Michigan State Police say the deputy injured in Friday's crash spotted the speeding motorcyclist on M-21 near Morrison Lake Road.  However, when the deputy started pursuing the rider, another driver turned into his path. Trying to avoid a direct collision, the deputy veered off the road, hitting a tree.

The deputy was injured, but is recovering. The passengers in the other vehicle were not injured.

Investigators are still trying to locate the motorcyclist.

UPDATE (10:00 P.M.)-- An Ionia County deputy is recovering after his cruiser hit a tree.

The deputy was responding to a high speed chase that started on Interstate 96 in Eaton County and continued in Ionia County. The motorcyclist, who topped speeds over 100 mph, exited on M-21.

The motorcyclist was last seen about three miles east of Lowell in Kent County. That's where the responding deputy collided with another vehicle, before crashing into a tree. He was not seriously injured.

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. (WZZM) - A high speed police chase involving a motorcycle is continuing in Ionia County.

The chase started around 2:30 Friday afternoon on I-96 in Eaton County. Michigan State Police say a motorcyclist on a blue Suzuki fled from officers, reaching speeds of 150 miles per hour at times. The chase continued from Eaton into Ionia County, and the motorcyclist exited the interstate onto M-21.

Police lost the motorcyclist, but sheriff's deputies from Ionia and Kent County resumed the chase on M-21 between Lowell and Saranac.  Ionia County Dispatch confirms a crash on M-21 about three miles east of Lowell.

WZZM 13 has a crew headed to the scene, we will have more information as it becomes available.
