Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - Pat Swilling, Jr.'s free throw with three seconds
remaining gave the Tulsa Golden Hurricane a 50-49 victory over the TCU Horned
Frogs in non-conference play at the Reynolds Center.
Swilling finished with six points off the bench, hitting just 2-of-5 attempts
at the charity stripe, while D'Andre Wright led the Golden Hurricane (6-3)
with 14 points in the triumph.
For the Horned Frogs (6-4), Garlon Green finished with 16 points and Connell
Crossland chipped in with 10 points.
Tulsa shot the ball well to open the contest, connecting on 57.1 percent from
the field, as it took a 30-25 lead into intermission. TCU made just 39.1
percent of its field goal attempts in the first half.
Neither team shot over 40 percent from the floor in the second half, with
Tulsa making just 35 percent and TCU slightly better at 37.5 percent. The
Horned Frogs opened the second half with an 9-0 run to take the lead. The
teams then traded leads throughout the half and after Green drained a three-
pointer with just over a minute to play to put the Horned Frogs ahead by one,
49-48, Wright made one of two free-throws to tie it with 44 seconds to play.
After a missed layup with five seconds remaining that would have given the
Horned Frogs the lead, Swilling pulled down the rebound and was fouled. He
made the first free throw with three seconds on the clock and after he missed
the second attempt, an offensive rebound by Scottie Haralson secured the
victory for the Golden Hurricane.
Tulsa had a slight edge on the boards, outrebounding TCU 33-27. TCU was able
to convert 23 Tulsa turnovers into 24 points.
