A Reed City assistant principal faces accusations of sexually assaulting a student. Troy Guzikowski, 43, turned himself in to the Mecosta County Sheriff's office late Saturday night.
The assistant principal works for Reed City High School in Osceola County.
Friday, the Mecosta Sheriff's office received word from Osceola County that a case of criminal sexual conduct had occurred in their county. The victim is a student at Reed City High School and the suspect, her assistant principal.
Troy Guzikowski faces charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct.
A friend of the victim told a school counselor, who then told school administrators and so on.
The contact between Guzikowski and the student happened in Green Township in Mecosta County, so investigators there have taken control of the case.
"The investigation is continuing, however, the prosecutor's office at this point has deemed that there is enough evidence to file charges and an arrest warrant for the assistant principal," says Sergeant Todd Purcell. "The people are given respect and put in those positions for a reason, and it's unfortunate when we have a situation like this."
Police executed a warrant at Guzikowski's home Saturday afternoon. They found some evidence at the home, but they're not saying what.
Police say Guzikowski will be charged with several counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct. The penalty for that charge is life in prison. He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Reed City Schools' superintendent has suspended Guzikowski from his duties.
